Lady Wildcats stay on the winning side for HOCO

The Lady Wildcats hosted the Atoka Wampus Cats for homecoming on Saturday, January 28. The Lady Wildcats kept the pressure on the Lady Wampus Cats with a lockdowndefensetomaintain the lead the entire game with a win of 44-29.

TheLadyWildcatsstarted senior Aubrie Cantrell, junior Kenzie Mathis, junior Haylee Elkins, junior Allyson Knight, and sophomore Luciana Douglass. With the help ofLaurenLandgraf,theteam was defensively prepared to stay in the game for the long haul.

Knight picked up the first team foul which didn’t slow thegamedownany.TheLady Wildcats started putting points on the board and by the end of the first period, the Lady Wildcats led 9-4.

Landgraf started the second period with two points and Elkins with a three-point shot. Holding the Wampus Cats off defensively, the Lady Wildcats kept them down to only scoring seven points while the Lady Wildcats picked up 10.

Starting off the second half as the lead scorer, Knight picked up two more points for theLadyWildcatswhileplaying lockdown defense with Landgraf to keep the Lady Wampus Cats struggling to score a point.

With a minute left in the third period, Douglass was a force to reckoned with, putting up shot after shot. At the end of the third period, Elkins had four points, Lexus Spanhanks had two, Kaytleigh Davishadthree,Landgraf with five, and both Douglass and Knight with eight points each. The score was Madill 31, Atoka 17 at the end of the third period.

Defensive player Knight pickedupherthirdandfourth fouls in the fourth quarter keeping the Lady Wampus Cats unable to score enough to catch the Lady Wildcats.

As Douglass continued to put points on the board until thebuzzer,theLadyWampus Cats were unable to keep up. Douglass led the team with 18 points making the final score 44-29.
