The Madill Lady Wildcats ran into a buzz saw on February 21 as they dropped their District Tournament game to the Tecumseh Lady Savages, 76-29. This dropped their season record to 10-14.

At the Friday night game, Madill could not seem to get any efficiency on offense because they turned the ball over quite often during the game.

They were down 37-10 at the half, but Madill kept competing against the taller opponents.

In the third quarter, Jayden Weiberg nailed two 3-pointers with another from Abbie Lambertsen for nine of the ten points in the quarter.

Tecumseh had a six-foot tall post player, Shantel Evans, who was able to put back many rebounded shots or pass out to shooters which made a big difference in the game. She scored 16 total points.

The leading scorer for the Lady Savages, however, was Kenzli Warden who scored 26 points which included three 3-pointers.

Coach Shawn Runyan said he was expecting a closer score gap, but the other team made it difficult.

“The girls were not able to run anything that we had worked on in practice,” said Runyan.

Going into the game, based on similar records with the two teams, Runyan had felt that it would be a close game.

Weiberg led the team with nine points on three 3-pointers. Lambertsen scored seven, and Destiny Adams scored five. Joslyn Stumblingbear played some tough defense in a very lopsided game.

The Madill Lady Wildcats will play Pauls Valley at Newcastle Thursday, February 27 at 1:30 p.m to start their Regional Tournament competition in the consolation bracket.

In a previous game this year, Madill lost to Pauls Valley, 55-35 at the Atoka tournament. Pauls Valley lost to Newcastle 57-46 on Saturday to join Madill in the consolation bracket.
