The Lady Redskins and Coach Chad Rummer ended the Dale Tournament on a high note. They defeated Oklahoma Christian School, 57 to 28, and brought home the third-place trophy.
The first quarter looked like it was going to be a close game. Olivia Quapaw set the pace and the tone early on. She hit a long range three pointer but it was on defense where she caused problems. OCS was having trouble with the constant pressure on the ball. They were hitting shots but struggling.
Quapaw again scored with a field goal. Kamry Bohannon had a three pointer. Ethel Stewart in relief of Emily Bellettini had a bucket. Bellettini had a free throw. The Lady Redskins were trailing, 14 to 11.
In the second quarter, the wheels came off for OCS. Coach Rumer turned the heat up a little more on that press and Quapaw started intercepting some of those wild passes OCS was throwing trying to get up the court. These turned into easy buckets.
OCS could only muster four points in the quarter. The Lady Redskins turned a deficit into the lead with a 21-point effort. Quapaw again had a three and a two point field goal. Kaya Wiebener followed suit with a three and a two-point goal. Lanie French and Bohannon each had field goals. Raegan Davis was 1 of 2 from the line. Stewart was off to a big game, two more field goals and 2 of 2 from the line. The score going into the locker room, 32 to 18, advantage Lady Redskins.
The second half did not go well for OCS, and they had another four point quarter. The guards, French, Quapaw, Jaci Herndon and Davis were putting tremendous pressure on the ball handlers as they tried to advance the ball. OCS was never able to get into any sort of rhythm when they did get it up the court. Stewart, Bohannon, Wiebener were all getting steals and rebounds. Bohannon had two field goals, Quapaw and Davis each had a bucket. Wiebener was 2 of 2 from the line, French was 1 of 2. The score after three quarters, 47 to 22.
If anyone had any ideas about stealing a game from the Lady Redskins, they would have to go through Stewart, and she was having none of it. She had four field goals in the quarter. Bohannon added another bucket to her total. The final score, Lady Redskins 57, OCS 28.
Box score: Stewart had 16 points; Bohannon had 13. Quapaw was next with 12, Wiebener and French both with five. Davis for three and Bellettini had one. From the line, as a team, 7 of 14 for 50 %.
Bellettini had limited minutes due to being under the weather. This was possibly Stewarts best game as a Lady Redskin. Besides her offensive game, she was also great on the boards. Next up for the Lady Redskins will be Friday the 17th at Sulphur to take on the Lady Bulldogs.
