Kingston v Madill

The first cross-county rivalry basketball game was played on December 6 in the brand-new Madill Event Center. The Lady Redskins andtheLadyWildcatsplayed to a packed house of Marshall County basketball fans. Coach Chad Rumer and his girls brought their “A” game and came away victorious, final score, 69 to 49.

In the first quarter, the Lady Redskins looked like they had the “opening night jitters”. The ball was not going in and Coach Rumer needed a timeout with 2:46 left in the quarter and the score 9 to 2 in favor of the Lady Wildcats.

At about the same time, Emily Bellettini entered the game. This was her first action of the new season as she waqs nursing a high ankle sprain. She seemed to ignite herteammatesasthebaskets began to come. Olivia Quapaw madeherfirststartofthe year. She and Jaci Herndon each had field goals. Kaya Wiebener and Bellettini each had three pointers. At the end of the first quarter, the Lady Wildcats were leading by five, 15 to 10.

The second quarter had the flood gates open on the Lady Redskins offense. Bellettini looked like she was making up for lost time. She had four field goals and was 2 of 3 from the line.

However, she wasn’t alone. Quapaw was making a statement herself, she added two more field goals. Kamry Bohannon had her first bucket. Herndon and Ethel Stewart both had buckets. Brooklyn Claborn was 1 of 2 from the line. By the time the buzzer sounded, theLadyRedskinshadputup a 21 point quarter and now lead, 31 to 20.

Coach Rumer must have seen something because the Lady Redskins began to find Stewart open underneath in the third quarter and she delivered with two more buckets. Bellettini also added two field goals. Quapaw hit two three pointers back-toback from very long range.

Wiebener added another three to her total. Quapaw had one more bucket on a drive that gave the Lady Redskins a 50 to 31 lead after as the third quarter came to a close.

The fourth quarter had the lady Redskins match the nineteen-point effort of the third. Bohannon had a three and two free throws. Stewart again was good underneath with two more buckets. Bellettini added a three and a two-point field goal.

Herndon had another bucket as did Quapaw. Claborn had another free throw. With a thirty point lead, the starters were finished and the second and third teams played the final three minutes. Kandice Felton, Tabitha Arnold, Emily Backenstoes, Maddi Willlis all saw action. The final score, the Lady Redskins 69 to 49 over the Lady Wildcats.

Box score: Bellettini lead the team with 22 points. Not bad for the first action of the year. Quapaw was next with 16 points, Stewart had a nice game and finished with 10 points. Bohannon had eight points and Wiebener and Herndon each had six. Claborn was two of three from the free throw line. As a team, from the free throw line, 6 of 12.

Kingston vs Cushing

Coach Chad Rummer and hisLadyRedskinsopenedthe first round of the Dale Tourney onDecember8whenthey played Cushing Lady Tigers. The good outing on Tuesday night seemed to carry over as the Lady Redskins cruised to a 54 to 16 win.

It was apparent right after the tipoff that the Lady Tigers were not ready for the type of defense that the Lady Redskins play every night. Turnovers and steals were quickly turning into points. To make things equally bad, the Lady Redskins were moving the ball quickly and taking good shots.

Olivia Quapaw was out of the gates running. She had a three pointer, then three more field goals and was 1 of 2 from the line. Lanie French added a three of her own, she was 1 of 2 from the free throw line,EthelStewartandEmily Bellettini each had buckets. As is the case most nights, Kamry Bohannon was getting to the free throw line, she was 3 of 4. Jaci Herndon was 1 of 2 on free throws. The Lady Redskins were in total control. They led after one quarter, 22 to 4.

Coach Rumer had to be pleased with the effort in holding Cushing to four firstquarter points. So, the Lady Redskins just repeated and held the Lady Tigers to four more in the second. Bellettini had two field goals, and Quapaw hadthree.Bohannonhad a field goal and a free throw.

Herndon and French each had field goals. Rumer was able to sub in with Kaya Wiebener and Herndon to keep fresh players on the court. The score at the half, Lady Redskins still cruising, 39 to 8.

In the third, the Lady Tigers only managed one basket. It came with 25 seconds to play in the quarter. Meanwhile, Quapaw had a bucket and two free throws, Bohannon had two field goals and a free throw, and French had her best quarter with three field goals. Brooklyn Claborn missed both her free throw attempts. The score after three quarters, 54 to 10.

In the fourth, Rumer went to the bench early. Emily Backenstoes, Tabitha Arnold, Kelsie Cook, Kailee Grigg, Maddi Willis, Kandice Felton all got minutes. The final score, 54 to 16.

Box score: Quapaw lead the team with 20 points, French with 12 and Bohannon had 11. Bellettini was next with six followed by Herndon with three and Stewart with two.

Kingston vs Elgin

The Lady Redskins faced the Elgin Lady Owls on December 9. Try as they might, they still fell to the Lady Owls, 68 to 51.

In the first, Olivia Quapaw and Kaya Wiebener each had three pointers. Kamry Bohannon and Jaci Herndon each had field goals. Emily Bellettini was 1 of 2 from the line. The Lady Redskins trailed by two, 13 to 11.

Secondquarterwaswhere it became evident that the buckets were going to be hard to come by. Herndon had the only field goal of the quarter. Bellettini again was 1 of 2 from the line. Bohannon was 0 for 2 from the line. Ethel Stewart was 3 of 4 from the line. Now, the Lady Redskins trailed by 8, 25 to 17.

Stewart put together a good third quarter for herself. She was 2 of 3 from the line and had to field goals. Quapaw had another three pointer, as did Wiebener. The Lady Redskins were really in trouble, trailing 42 to 29.

This team is heavy laden with seniors that have played a lot of ball. They do not give up easily. They worked hard and cut the lead down to eight. However, time was quickly slipping away, and the only recourse was to foul.

Laney French got a three pointer to fall and was 2 of 2 from the line. Herndon had a three pointer, as well. Bellettini had her best quarter with three field goals and was 3 of 3 from the line. Bohannon had a field goal and was 1 of 2 from the line. The Lady Redskins fell, 68 to 51 to the Lady Owls from Elgin.

Box score: Stewart led the team with 10 points. Next was Quapaw and Bellettini with eight each. Herndon had seven, Wiebener had six, French and Bohannon each with five.

Kingston v Millwood

The Lady Redskins faced the Millwood Lady Falcons on December 10 after a reschedule. Kingston walked away with the win with the final score of 56 to 48.

This senior lead squad made sure there was no carry-over from Friday’s disappointing loss to Elgin. Olivia Quapaw had five points with one three pointer, Lanie Frenchhadathree,andEthel Stewart was right on point with a field goal and was 2 of 2 from the line.

Kaya Wiebener also had a three pointer. Junior Emily Bellettini had a three pointer and Jaci Herndon had a bucket. The Lady Redskins coasted to a 20 to 7 lead after one quarter.

In the second quarter, Quapaw showed no signs of letting up on the Lady Falcons. She had another three and a field goal. Herndon added her own three pointer. Stewarthadanotherbucket. Bellettini was a perfect 2 of 2 from the line. Kamry Bohannonwasslowedthanks to two early fouls. The lady Redskins were on top at the half, 32 to 19.

The third quarter gave life to Bohannon, and she responded with a three and a two-point field goal. Stewart and Quapaw both had field goals. The Lady Falcons were pulling closer. After three, the score was 41 to 34.

In the fourth quarter, Bellettini made sure that the door stayed closed on Millwood. She was active with three field goals and was 1 of 3 from the line. Quapaw hit another “dagger to the heart” three pointer and was 1 of 1 from the line. French and Bohannon were 2 of 2 from the line. The final score 56 to 48. Coach Rumer and the LadyRedskinstookhomethe third place trophy.
