Kingston dominated the first three quarters and then cruised the rest of the way for a 48-20 gridiron victory over Heavenerlastweektoremain in firm control of Class 2A-1 District 3.
The Redskins improved to 6-1 overall and will put their perfect 4-0 league mark on the line Friday in their final regular season road tilt at Prague.
It was a 20-0 Kingston advantage through one period and the Redskins added to that mark with 14-0 scoring edges in both the second and third stanzas.
“We wanted to come out fast and jump on them early and did just that,” said head coach Brad Hill. “The kids were excited and got after it. That gave us a chance to play abunchofyoungerkidsinthe fourth quarter once again.”
Kingston rolled up 435 yards in just 36 offensive plays, with a massive chunk of that coming in the first three frames.
Senior Reid Patterson produced one of his most efficient passing performances of the season as he completed 13 of 16 attempts for 185 yards and two touchdowns. Hudson Everhart had one of the two scoring tosses in his five receptions for 84 yards. Ty Jones added four grabs for 44 yards and one touchdown.
Jaksyn Martin tossed in two catches for 24 yards, Lander Burkhalter had one for 21 yards and Parks Ratzlaff also chipped in one reception for 12 yards.
The Redskin rushing attack accounted for 250 yards on 23 carries with eight different players all adding to the assault.
Logan Stephens tallied 82 yards and two scores on just four carries while Ratzlaff also found paydirt twice on only five totes that produced 68 yards.
Patterson had the other rushing touchdown while carrying four times for 18 yards. Boen Proctor posted three carries for 12 yards, Everhart rushed once for 29, Martin had two totes for 18 yards, Kelly Gray added two carries for 18 yards and Ethan Mowles pitched in five yards on a pair of runs.
“Reid was extremely efficient throwing the ball while completing a high percentage of his passes,” Hill said. “Our defense was very physical all night and I was proud of their effort.
“We saw some things that we need to get corrected and get better at as we head toward the playoffs. Prague is a good squad, so we’ve got to be ready. They have a dynamic quarterback that we must contain. They will also likely trytotakeawayourrungame so it may be important for us to be able to throw.”
