Rompingtoa42-0firsthalf lead, the Kingston Redskins put it in cruise control with a host of reserves seeing action last week as they posted a 42-16 victory on the road at Okmulgee.
The Redskins improved to 4-1 on the season and more importantly 2-0 in district play with another crucial battle this week at home against Bethel, which sports a 2-3 record and 1-1 mark in league play.
“I thought our kids came out focused and played well early last week,” said head coach Brad Hill. “We got out to a big lead, which allowed the young kids to get some Friday night varsity reps and we got out of it healthy. It was our first long road trip and the kids handled it well. That was good to see because we have several more to take this year. It was a good night with a lot of excitement.”
TheKingstonstarterssaw virtually just a half of action at the most while rolling to theearlyadvantageandwere able to get some needed rest.
Quarterback Reid Patterson completed all six of his pass attempts for 112 yards and two touchdowns while also adding a pair of rushes for 34 yards.
Parks Ratzlaff had just one rushing carry for six yardsbutscoredatouchdown while Blake Wise scored on both his totes with 11 yards. Kelly Gray contributed a team-high 41 yards on six attempts on the ground. Cash Walker added 13 yards on just one rush and Ethan Mowles notched 14 yards on seven attempts while also tossing a 16-yard touchdown pass in relief.
On the receiving side, Ratzlaffsnaggedthreepasses for 27 yards and one of the touchdowns. Eli Oliger had a 37-yard touchdown grab and Jake Hofferber also scored on his 16-yard reception.
The Redskins, who amassed 261 yards offensively on just 38 snaps, now look forward to a pair of important district classes the next two Thursdays against Bethel and Heavener.
“It will be a good battle with Bethel,” Hill commented. “They are a big, physical team with a good, physical running back.
“Last week, we faced more of a speed team at Okmulgee and this week it’s a big, physical unit that likes to run the football similar to Kiefer, so we’re going to need to play well.”
