Kingston claims Dale consolation crowns

After splitting a road contest at Ada early in the week, the Kingston Redskins basketball teams each claimed consolation championship honors at the Annual Dale Invitational.

The Lady Redskins notched at 3-1 week that included the win over Ada ahead of the opening round 48-35 tournament loss to powerhouse Alva. Coach Chad Rumer’s club rebounded by blasting the Mustang JV (52-19) and Oklahoma Christian School (52-26).

On the boys’ side, the Redskins dropped two straight, 64-45 at Ada and 71-55 to Kingfisher. They bounced back for impressive triumphsagainsttheOCSJV (81-50) and Cushing (73-43).

Kingston will be at the Northeastern Festival the endofthisweekinTahlequah to wrap up the first semester schedule.

Girls

The Lady Redskins set the tone for the week early in a 38-22 victory against perennial power Ada, outscoring the Lady Cougars 15-10 in the first stanza. They only allowed 12 points over the final three periods and were able to easily pull away.

Two players reached double figures for Kingston and singlehandedly teamed to equal Ada’s total as Avery Ludrick canned three treys on the way to 12 points with Cassidy Walker contributing 10.

Taylie Wiebener chipped in five, Dextry Bowerman posted four, Olivia McAlister hadthreewithKeetonHatley adding two.

The Lady Redskins led 16-14 after one frame in the Alva matchup and neither team could pull out much of a lead until the Lady Bugs took control with a 17-7 scoring edge in the final quarter.

Wiebener pitched in eight, Walker scored seven while Bowerman and Ludrick notched six apiece for Kingston.

Rumer’s squad made a big first period lead hold up in an easy consolation semifinal victory as they rolled to a 17-1 advantage through one stanza, 30-8 at halftime and 42-16 following the third quarter.

Walker claimed high scoring honors with 13 points as nine Lady Redskins got in the scoring column. Destry Davis also reached double digits with 10.

The tournament finale saw another strong start by Kingston as the Lady Redskins snagged an 11-6 lead through one and pushed that to a commanding 31-14 at intermission.

Walker fueled a balanced attack with 11 points as Dilynn Weeks tossed in nine and McAlister had eight. Ludrick, Bowerman and Davis all contributed six points.

Boys

Kingstonranintodifficulty in the first two contests last week in facing a talented and deep unit from both Ada and Kingfisher.

In the Ada contest, the Cougars snagged a 17-7 lead in the opening stanza and slowly pulled away from there although the Redskins still finished with a trio of double figure scorers.

Jack Hinsley led the offensive charge with 16 points as Hudson Everhart pumped in 11 and Hayden Seeney had 10.

It was a little better start against Kingfisher but the Redskins still trailed 16-10 through one frame and the Yellowjackets really broke it open with a 26-point second quarter eruption.

Brock Rumer and Hinsley each pumped in 15 points as Seeney also pitched in 10 in pacing Kingston.

The Redskins really got the offense rolling facing the Oklahoma Christian JV, reeling off 20 points in each of the first two periods while building a comfortable 40-26 halftime edge.

Rumer sank three treys and had half of the team’s 20 in the first frame on the way to a season-high 22. Hinsley also scored 22 with Seeney tallying double figures at 11. Blane Henry tossed in eight andParksRatzlaffhadseven.

Another impressive performance by the Redskins followed as they cruised by Cushing in taking the consolation hardware.

Kingston bolted to a 1911 advantage through one period, pushed the margin to 36-21 at the half and 58-35 following three stanzas.

Rumer had the hot hand with five three pointers and notched a team-leading 19 points. Three others reached double digits with 13 from Seeney, 12 by Hinsley and Henry’s 11. Reid Patterson ended with eight.
