Lady Wildcats handle Lady Wildcats 58-4

The Madill Lady Wildcats hosted the Putnam Heights in a late tipoff Dec. 5 in their first game of the 2019 Madill Winter Classic.

The starting five for the Lady Wildcats were guards Abbie Lambertsen and Jayden Weiberg along with forwards Ximena Gomez, Mariana Mendez and Joslyn Stumblingbear.

Meanwhile the starters for the Lady Panthers were Guard Saranona James, point guard Dajiah Ingram, guard Julissa Duncan, point guard Maryauna Hallmark and point Shaina Nguyen.

Putnam Heights dressed one other player, sophomore My’Niah Thrash.

The Lady Wildcats employed a full court press to success early.

Gomez hit a pair of threes from the left corner to push Madill’s lead to 8-0.

Then, Chapa scored to complete an early 10-0 run for the hosts.

After an early Putnam Heights timeout, Madill forced a turnover and Lambertsen heaved a long pass across the court to Stumblingbear who hesitated before scoring from two feet out.

Weiberg scored on a fast break to increase the lead to 12-0.

Madill’s defensive pressure forced additional mismkes

In short order, Weiberg hit another three before Chapa scored on a put back and Gomez scored on consecutive fastbreaks. After the sequence, Madill took a commanding 23-0 lead.

James made one of two free throws to make it 23-1, which is where it would stand at the end of the first quarter.

Destiny Adams would score first for Madill to start the second quarter. Adams’ bucket made the score 25-1.

Following a foul, Scheidner made two free throws to increase Madill’s lead to 27-1.

On the next play, Adams intercepted a pass and took it to the other end for a basket. Then, Coleman and Schneider added back to back baskets to push the Lady Wildcat lead to 33-1.

Ashley Arnold added a three on Madill’s next possession. Then, Coleman took a low pass from Gomez to score a close range shot just before the halftime buzzer.

Madill took a 38-1 lead into halftime.

New half, same verse

Weiberg scored to open the second half, 40-1

A few moments later, Stumblingbear added a basket of her own. Chapa put into a short basket later in the quarter to make it Madill 44, Putnam Heights 1.

Gomez snagged an errant pass and drove the length of the court to put Madill 46-1 just before the quarter ended.

Mendez started off the Lady Wildcat scored to begin the fourth quarter. Two possessions later, Adams scored on a pull up jumper.

On the next possession, Adams scored on a three on one fast break to increase the Lady wildcat lead to 52-1.

Ana Veras scored on a put back to add to Madill’s lead.

Ingram hit a three pointer to the crowd’s delight just before the two-minute mark.

Senior guard Ashlynn Arnold scored a close shot for Madill’s last points of the night.

The final score was Madill 58, Putnam Heights 4.
