Madill and Blanchard met on Oct. 17 in a battle of football teams whose seasons were on the brink. Both squads came into the game with identical 2-4 records and losing marks in district play.

Blanchard struck first with a big score on the game’s opening drive. After a big kick return, the Tigers started at their own 45. A reverse of the first play of the drive gained only one yard. Then, a pass gave them a first down at the Madill 44.

Then the fireworks started when Chad Fox caught a 41-yard touchdown pass from Colby Langford with 9:41 to go in first. A successful kick by Fox made it 7-0 in favor of the visitors.

The hosts got a score of their own on the next drive.

Madill started at their own 35. Running back Mateo Fajardo got a 6-yard gain to the Madill 41. Following a flag that moved the ball back, slot Trey Gammill gained 14 yards to get the ball back to Madill’s 44-yard line.

Then, sophomore quarterback Kendall Robertson connected on a 39-yard pass to senior Asa Robertson to take the Wildcats into the redzone.

Two plays later, fullback Jonn Venable scored a touchdown on a 5 yard run. The extra point by Fajardo was no good leaving the score was Blanchard 7, Madill 6.

The Lions started their drive off with a big completion of 31 yards to Bryce Madron to get the ball down to the Madill 34. Then, Langford completed a pass to Conner Boyd at the Wildcats 21 for an 18-yard pick-up. On the next play, Madron took it down the right side to score a 21-yard touchdown. The kick was good to make the score now 14-6.

The second quarter was quiet until a punt by Blanchard was downed deep in Madill territory. The Wildcat drive stalled when Kendall Robertson ran to the Wildcats 15 for no gain and fumbled the ball. The fumble was forced by Blanchard’s Quade Cole and recovered by Mason Laminack.

On the ensuing drive, a Handoff to Madron resulted in a 6-yard pick-up. Then, on second and goal, Madron carried the ball in for a touchdown. With the kick, Blanchard took a 21-6 lead.

3 RD QUARTER

The Madill defense flexed their muscles on Blanchard’s first drive of the second half. Langford was stopped for a loss of one on a tackle by Venable. Then, defensive lineman Jorge Martinez sacked Langford for a loss of 7.

A 12-yard pass to Conner Boyd was completed but Venable forced a fumble and returned it 33 yards for score. Venable ran in the two-point conversion to cut Blanchard’s lead to seven points; 21-14.

On the next Blanchard drive, Kendall Robertson intercepted Langford.

The Wildcats started at the Blanchard 39. After an incomplete pass, Venable busts through middle to 29 for a first down after a 10-yard gain.

In a big set, Venable pushes down left for 6-yard gain. Then on, 2nd and 4 from the Blanchard 23, he gained another 6 yards to the Blanchard

17. A pitch to the right to Brett McDaniel resulted in a loss of 5 yards.

Then, Kendall’s pass into the endzone intended for Asa was incomplete. A little push by Asa resulted in an offensive pass interference call.

The penalty made it third and 27. On the next play, Kendall threw an interception to Colin Deaton, who returned it 80 yards for the score. Following the kick, Blanchard’s lead was up to 28-14.

For their last score of the game, Blanchard took the ball 90 yards after starting on their own 10.

Madron had runs of 17 and 25 yards to power the Lions before scoring on a 12-yard run. The kick was good to make it Blanchard 35, Madill 14; which would be the final score.

UP NEXT: Madill (2-5 overall, 1-3 in district) travel north to visit the McLoud Redskins (0-7 overall, 0-4 district).
