Coach Taylor Weibner and the Redskins opened up the Atoka Wampus Cat Classic on January 21, 2021 with a date with Idabel. The Redskins were focused on the task at hand and and possibly not meeting with Broken Bow in the next round— that is if they get by the Madill Wildcats in the first round. The Redskins beat Idabel 45 to 37.
In the first quarter, the Redskins came out bombing away from beyond the arc. Dakota (Microwave) Weibner was quick on the draw and hit a three-pointer. He would later add another field goal. Brady Brister got off to a good start with a three of his own. Marshall Ludrick had a field goal. Jase Hays was 1 of 2 from the line. The Redskins were up, 11 to six after one quarter.
Brister got busy in the second quarter. He had six points on three field goals. Tucker (Convection) Rumer came out and hit a three as he has made a habit of doing recently. Idabel still trails going into the locker room 20 to 15.
With both teams playing great defense, goals proved to be hard to come by in the third quarter. Weibner connected on another three-pointer. Hays had a field goal and was 1 of 2 from the line. Freshman Reid Cason continued to impress with limited minutes. He had a field goal and a block and a steal. Redskins were still in the driver’s seat going into the fourth, 29 to 21.
In the fourth quarter, Weibner had another three-pointer. Ludrick had a three and two field goals. Jesse Rose got a bucket underneath. Hays went 2 of 2 from the line. Idabel needed a timeout at the 2:41 mark trailing 41 to 30. The next timeout was with 37 seconds left and they still trailed 43 to 35. Each team got a bucket in the remaining seconds and the Redskins prevail 45 to 37.
Box Score: Weibner lead the team with 11, Brister was next with 10. Ludrick was good for nine, Hays had six on one field goal and was 5 of 6 from the line. Rumer had a three and Rose and Cason each had a field goal. As a team, from the line 5 of 11 for 45%.
