Abbey Tiernan

Abbey Tiernan is a senior on the Madill High School Softball team. She is the daughter of Sandra and Charles Ellison. Her siblings are her brother, Cooper Ellison and sister, Ashely Rasovic.

Abbey plays both fast-pitch, slow-pitch, and is on the archery team. She has played softball for years, beginning with t-ball and has participated in archery for the past three years. She was named All-Conference and All-District in softball in 2020.

Coach Molly Raley said Tiernan is a joy to coach.

“Abbey has been with us for the past four years and it shows,” Raley said “She is a leader on the field. She works hard at everything she does. It has been a great privilege to coach her.”

Tiernan’s favorite high school memory goes back to her first day as a a freshman.

“My favorite memory from softball is from my very first day at Madill,” Tiernan said. “It was my freshman year and the first time I had ever met any of my fellow teammates and as I went up to bat, Mckenzie Reed hit me in my side with the very first pitch she threw.”

Currently, the only plans Tiernan has for after high school is to go to college. She is just undecided on where or for what. She noted that she felt she had accomplished so many things throughout high school, but the most important was just finishing school without dropping out. She has maintained good grades while juggling her work hours along with her softball and archery schedule.

“My favorite thing about high school and softball is all the lifelong friends I have made,” she said.

Tiernan said her coaches taught her lifelong skills.

“I want to tell my coaches thank you for not only teaching me about the game of softball, [but] life, and most importantly they taught me so much about myself,” Tiernan said. “Without them, I honestly would have probably quit. They always have managed to keep the game fun.”

Head Coach Shawn Runyan said seeing her graduate will be a bittersweet occasion. “Abbey has always been there with a smile on her face ready to play ball,” Runyan said. “She will be missed!”
