A busy opening week saw the Kingston Lady Redskins notch six victories in eight contests, including a perfect start to District 3A-1 play and a 3-2 record in the Calera Invitational.
Kingston dominated the tournament opener with a 9-1 whipping of Colbert spurred by Hall’s pitching one-hit effort that contributed seven strikeouts. Minor had a hit and drove in two to pace the hitting corp.
The Lady Redskins followed with an impressive 4-1 win over Tushka, making the most of three hits offensively as Langford and Destry Davis had one and an RBI apiece. Hallum went the pitching distance for a complete game four-hitter.
Host Calera knocked Kingston into the tournament loser’s bracket with a 4-1 decision as the Lady Redskins mustered six hits but could only plate one run by Langford. Bain led the offense with two hits.
Minor’s unit rebounded to hold off rival Tishomingo, 5-4, after building an early 3-0 advantage in the first stanza.
Elkins singled to push across two tallies and put Kingston ahead to stay in the first frame.
Hall and Elkins combined for four and two-third innings for the pitching win before Emma Bridgman was summoned for the final out to preserve the victory and notch her first save of the year.
A rematch with Tushka followed and the Lady Redskins watched a 4-2 lead slip away as the Lady Tigers plated single runs in the final three stanzas for a 5-4 elimination win.
Elkins ended with a double and drove in two runs while Langford tripled in pacing the Kingston offensive charge.
