Owasso, OK
- The Madill Takedown Club competed at its very first Freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling tournament at the 2025 Owasso Ram Tuph Open on April 26, 2025. If there was ever a series of David vs Goliath moments, it was unfolding rapidly at Owasso High School.
Four Madill Takedown Club wrestlers wrestled their hearts out against wrestlers from the Cowboy Wrestling Club of Stillwater (a feeder program to Stillwater High School and eventually OSU), as well as Teams Oklahoma Elite and Oklahoma Rampage.
The small contingent of four wrestlers and their six medals were as follows: Freestyle:
• Camarie Johnson - Silver (Junior Girls - 155 lbs - Madill)
• Lucas Franklin - Gold (Boys 16U - 285 lbs - Coalgate) • Arlis Stowe - Silver (Boys 14U - 175-225 lbs Coalgate)
• Bodie Franklin - Gold (Boys 10U 93-120 lbs. - Coalgate) Greco:
• Lucas Franklin - Gold (Boys 16U - 285 lbs - Coalgate) • Bodie Franklin - Gold (Boys 10U 93 lbs. - Coalgate) “Our kids went out there on the mats with extreme focus and determination against kids who were bigger and have been wrestling Freestyle and Greco for longer than a couple of months,” said Head Coach of Freestyle and Greco, Peter Hammer,. “They all gave their personal bests, which is the only thing we ever ask for: Go have fun and leave i tall out on the mat. The rest will follow.”
Camarie, Lucas, Arlis and Bodie did just that with both Lucas and Bodie winning gold in both Freestyle and Greco. Lucas went undefeated in Greco, and his younger brother, Bodie, went completely undefeated in both Freestyle and Greco. In fact, Bodie pinned anything that was moving including wrestlers who were close to 30 lbs heavier. Arlis, too, wrestled up in a weight bracket against bigger wrestlers. His Silver was hard-earned.
Of special note is Camarie’s accomplishment. She is the first female wrestler of the Club to stand atop the podium earning her Silver.
“The coaches are over the moon for each of our wrestlers and their massive performances,” Hammer added. “We know that with each tournament all of them will become increasingly explosive after setting an already high bar.”
