Sara Sue Martin, 77, of Newcastle, Okla. passed away Monday, December 31, 2019 at O.U. Medical Center in Oklahoma City. She was born February 7, 1942, in Galva, Kansas. Sara was the oldest of four children born to Ralph Burdette Finkle and Eudora Rose (Weller) Finkle. Sara grew up in Illinois and moved to Madill, OK in the 6th grade. She later graduated from Madill High School in 1960, and was the Valedictorian of her class.

One year later, she married the love of her life, Jimmie Dale Martin. They were married on February 9, 1961, in Madill. After marrying, they first lived four years in Kingsville, Texas where Jimmie was stationed in the military and she attended college. Their next homes were in Houston, Shawnee, Del City and later Oklahoma City, living there until they moved to Newcastle.

Sara worked as a homemaker, wife and mother for many years. After moving to Oklahoma City, she first worked several years as a Unit Clerk in the Baptist Burn Center. Then in 1971, she got a job with the United States Postal Service, working in the downtown district office. She worked 30 years as a Human Resource Manager, retiring in 2009.

Throughout her life, Sara was an avid sports fan and her favorite players were her grandchildren. She loved watching them play football, basketball, baseball, softball, soccer and band. She also enjoyed watching sports on TV. Her favorite teams were O.U. and O.S.U., and most recently the OKC Thunder Basketball. Other hobbies of hers include knitting and cooking.

She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and dear friend.

Sara is survived by her husband, Jimmie D. Martin of Newcastle, Okla.; her children, Jimmie D. Martin II and wife Kristin of Yukon, Okla. Shelly Sue Fisher and husband Carl of West Port, Okla. Shannon Lea Russell and husband Chris of Yukon, Okla. and John A. Martin of Oklahoma City, Okla.; two brothers, Ralph B Finkle, Jr. of Rock Port, Texas, and Roger Dale Finkle of Stillwater, Okla.; brother-in-law Sammy Martin and wife Judy of Harrah, Okla., sister-inlaw Billie Williams of Oklahoma City, Okla.

Sara is also survived by eleven grandchildren, three great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of other relatives and friends.

Memorioal serives were held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 4, 2020 at Woodland Hills Baptist Church. Internment was at Newcastle Memorial Gardens. Send online condolences at 222.wilsonlittle.com.
