Two Madill residents are facing charges after an altercation.
Two Madill residents are facing charges after an altercation. Marshall County Deputy Joshua Paul was dispatched to a residence on Cedar Avenue for a report of a physical altercation in progress. Once Paul arrived on the scene, he spoke with the neighbor of the victim who was acting as a translator due to a language barrier.
The neighbor told the officer that the victim answered her door at approximately 6:30 p.m. on May 10 to find two of her husband’s relatives at the door. The victim claimed that when she opened her door, Lourdes Rivera and Angelica Rivera “pulled her out of the house and physically assaulted her.” She also stated that the victim’s mother-in-law was the one who broke up the altercation. That was when both suspects fled the scene in a white Ford Explorer.
During the investigation, Paul observed slight bruising and redness to both sides of the victim’s face. She also had a small laceration and scrape on the left knee with some blood. Paul inquired if the victim needed medics on the scene, to which she denied.
However, a few moments later, the victim requested to be checked out. Marshall County EMS arrived on scene and evaluated and bandaged the victim’s knee. Paul then requested the victim’s husband to fill out a statement or footage from the video cameras.
The victim’s husband stated that once the assault occurred, he exited the residence and observed the altercation. He said he attempted to separate the three but found it difficult due to the two suspects having a grip on the victim’s hair.
The husband also said that his mother and the victim’s cousin also tried breaking up the fight but was unsuccessful due to “Angelica being on top of” the victim. The altercation finally stopped, and the victim’s husband took the victim inside while the two suspects continued to yell at the victim. Eventually, the suspects left the residence. The officer noted that while this altercation occurred, there was a child present.
After getting everybody’s statement at the initial residence, officers went to get the suspect’s statements. The officers arrived at the residence and a female subject answered the door. Officers identified the subject as Lourdes, a 21-year-old from Madill. She and her mother, Angelica were placed under arrest.
Once the suspects were transported to the jail, Lourdes gave her account on the altercation. She said that on May 8, she and her brother-in-law went to the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office to fill out statements on the aggressive nature between the victim and her husband (the suspect’s brother-in-law).
Lourdes said that after that, she began receiving threatening texts from the victim and the victim’s sister. Lourdes alleged that she never reciprocated the aggression back toward the victim.
The suspect stated that earlier in the day of the altercation, she brought the victim’s husband to speak to an attorney and that the victim became very irate due to the spouse “attempting to leave her.”
Lourdes further alleged that she and Angelica, a 56-year-old from Madill, went to the victim’s resident to “try and talk things out.” However, when the duo arrived at the residence, Lourdes told the victim to step outside to be out of earshot of the children in the residence. Allegedly, the victim became irate and attacked the suspect.
The suspect said that she pulled the victim’s hair and swung her arms at the victim to get the victim off her. According to Lourdes, that was when Angelica became involved in the altercation, she was trying to separate Lourdes and the victim.
Once officers received the suspect’s statements, Lourdes and Angelica were both booked into the Marshall County Jail for Domestic Abuse/Assault and Battery in the Presence of a Minor. However, the charges found online were for Assault and Battery. Neither suspect showed any Oklahoma priors.
