Madill wrestlers upset 6th ranked Comanche

Key fall victories in middle weight classes and a pair of closing wins proved to be the difference as the Madill High School wrestling team went on the road to upset sixthranked Comanche in a 42-35 dual thriller last week.

The Wildcats remained unbeaten in dual action at 3-0 going into the Christmas Break. They will be on the road at Durant for their next outing on January 8.

Madill picked up a pair of forfeits right out of the gate with freshman Blaze Greenwood and senior Braxton Gimenez at 106 and 113 pounds respectively.

A string of defeats thereafter put Comanche in front 19-10 although a key turning point came at 132 pounds where Brayden Valles suffered a loss but it was only a narrow 2-1 decision.

Junior Jackson Harper ended the Comanche scoring flurry with a first period fall win at 1:37 against Hunter Roebuckat144pounds.Aroddy Camacho followed with a 62-second pin fall triumph at 150 facing Hayden Hargat that pushed the Wildcats back on top at 24-19.

The powerful Indians showed their prowess with victories at 157 and 165 pounds but Brylon Gibson’s forfeit at 175 made it a 30-29 Madill lead in the see-saw affair.

Comanche went back ahead with a fall at 190 pounds to take the team outcome down to the final two matches.

Madill notched a pivotal 3:23 fall win by freshman Alex Sarabia over Kolby Cass at 215 pounds and senior Ramiro Rangel finished off the rally with a first period pin against Cooper Green in the heavyweight matchup.

Madill’s junior high grapplers also reeled off a 54-18 dual triumph at Comanche, posting victories in all but three weight divisions.

The Wildcats recorded forfeit wins by Teo Barrientos, Donavan Sinks and Ranger Willis to get it rolling in the three smallest weight classes and Layne Dorer was a fall victor at 112 pounds for a 24-0 lead.

They added a Ryder Hutton pin fall win at 126 and then consecutive fall decisions for Steven Moreno, Jacob Valles and Rodrigo Cruces at 155, 170 and 195 pounds. Dago Gonzalez added a forfeit at heavyweight for the final Madill team points.
