The next TFD member to be presented is Linda Orrson, Auxiliary Treasure, TFDBusinessManager,TFD Board Member. This is her story.
My name is Linda Orrson, I grew up in south Oklahoma City but spent all of our family vacationsandweekendsat Texoma camping. I married, had a daughter and worked at S.W. Bell for 15 1/2 years.
I divorced and then a couple of years later I met my current husband at a company school in Lisle, Ill.. He was from Maryland.
After writing letters, long distance phone calls and a few visits (we spent enough to buy a car) we were married a year later. My daughter andImovedMarylandwhere I worked for Verizon for another 15 1/2 years.
For approximately five years we were all involved in a Fife and Drum Corp doing Revolutionary and Civil Warre-enactments. Thenwe joined the Baltimore Colts Band.
My daughter played mellophone, my husband was color guard and I was flag line. The Colts changed to Baltimore Marching Ravens when Baltimore finally got a football team back.
In 2004, my husband and I both retired and moved to Kingston, Okla. We didn’t know anyone except the realtor.
I was told that were several telephone company retirees at Texoma but not where they lived. Then I found out that Dave and Patsy Roach lived just down the road from us.
Patsy invited me to the Auxiliary meetings and in 2007 recruited me for Keeper of the Keys and then Treasurer. The Treasurer was automatically on the Texoma Fire District Board of Directors.
In 2015, I became the TFD Treasurer and in 2018, I was recruited to replace the TFD Business Manager. In 2019, theBoardvotedtochangeour fire department from Title 18 to Title 19 which required only five Board Members. I was voted in as one of those five and recruited to remain as Business Manager.
I have met many wonderful and fun ladies in my retirement journey and it’s much better than not knowing anyone.
