TFD: A series of history lessons

In 1982, TFD property for the now Fire Station 1 was donated by Edna and Art Hackler. The building was completed the same year and the fire rating for insurance was reduced to 10/9. It’s interesting that just last year our, fire rating was reduced again to 10/5.

In 1987, the property for the TFD Community/ Training Center was donated by Jewel Griffin and sons, Floyd and Carl Griffin. Fund raisers were held, and membership funds were set aside for the building which was completed in 1990.

In 1985, many of the volunteer fire fighters would go on first responder calls with a rescue unit but due to costly liability insurance and shortage of qualified personal, the TFD Ambulance Service was discontinued. In 1986, a First Responder training program was held, but availability of firemen during the workday continued to be an issue.

It was apparent that total support of the fire department must come from the property owners. In 1987, the TFD Board set up new bylaws to accomplish and promote volunteers.
