Kingston faced Madill on December 7, 2021, for the annual fight to see which team will keep the shoe. Coach Chad Rumer had his 1 and 1 Lady Redskins ready to go from the opening whistle, and the Lady Wildcats fought hard. However, in the end, the Lady Redskins retained ownership of the “shoe” for another season. Lady Redskins were victorious, 69 to 57.
In the first quarter, the Lady Redskins pulled out to a 12 to 5 lead. They were led by the front court players. Olivia Quapaw lead the way with a three, a two, and was 2 of 2 from the line. Lanie French had a three, Jacie Herndon had a field goal and Kamry Bohannon had a field goal and a free throw. Madill battled back and cut the lead to 15 to 11 after one.
The full-house crowd was in for a treat in the second. Both teams were finding their offense and the pace was quick. The Lady Wildcats scored 27 points, and the Lady Redskins added 24 to their total. The Lady Redskins were balanced with five girls scoring.
Quapaw continued with the hot hand. She was good for two three-pointers and a two-point field goal. Herndon again had a three-pointer. Bohannon again had a field goal and a free throw. Kaya Wiebener got all of hers from the free throw line, 6 of 6. Emily Bellettini had two field goals. At the half, the Lady Redskins lead was down to one point, 39 to 38.
The third quarter had the Rumer defense on display. They managed to hold the Lady Wildcats to five points. Turnovers and fouls started coming. While they were not connecting very well from the line, 3 of 8, they were getting to the goal. Raegan Davis had her first field goal, Quapaw had another field goal and a free throw, as did French. Bohannon had a three-point goal and a free throw. The lead was stretched to eight points, 51 to 43.
The fourth quarter saw the Lady Redskins put up another good scoring effort. Davis had six points, Quapaw had two free throws, French had a three and a two-point goal, Bohannon had a twopoint field goal and a free throw, Bellettini had a field goal. All for an 18-point effort. The Lady Wildcats tallied 14 but couldn’t cut the deficit. Final Score was 69 to 57.
Box score: Quapaw finished with 20 points, and Bohannon was next with 12 followed by French who had 11. Davis had all hers in the second half, she had eight, Bellettini and Weibener both finished with six each, Herndon had five. Thanks to Wiebener going 6 of 6 from the line the team was 13 of 25 for 52%.
