On Saturday November 6, 2021, the Ragged Edge Ranch in Kingston hosted their second annual Production Cattle Sale. The sale also had a special guest in attendance, Forrie J. Smith.
The Ragged Edge Ranch owners, family, and friends – Jeff and Cheri Dailey, Mark and Molly McLemore, and others - put many hours in to get the ranch in its current shape. Dailey said it has been quite a task to get the ranch and production barn to what it is today, but with the great turn out and some grace from God on the weather, the hard labor was more than worth it.
The sale order included 45 head from 10 pens and was a formal event. The sale barn featured a top-notch show pen built by ranch hands, Dailey said. When the auctioneer began to yodel, attendees came alive, and things began to happen quickly.
The sale was complimented by musical artists “Amanda Coffee and Pops” who quickly proved this event was not their first. The band gave a first class version of the National Anthem that led to a final applause equal to any mega event.
The special guest Smith plays Lloyd on the Award-Winning Paramount series Yellowstone. Forrie, was also the guest speaker, told the audience that he felt at home in Kingston.
“This is in my blood, I am home, y’all are my kind of people,” he said.
Forrie then blessed the food with a prayer he uses before every rodeo event that he participates in. Forrie took the time to visit with everyone who approached him and took many pictures. He gave a shout out to the cowboys.
“These types of people, cowboys, are who puts the beef on peoples table.”
As the sale came to completion, the Amanda Coffee and Pops band elegantly broke out some true country music classics and even a few rock songs. Guests were given a full supper with all the fixings.
Jed Cormier and son Lane were the caterers and laid out quite a spread including homemade gumbo, country style green beans, chicken, shrimp, broccoli salad, corn casserole, fresh rolls. To top off the scrumptious meal was a dessert consisting of homemade banana pudding and quite possibly the best bread pudding with rum sauce.
Dailey said, “Eighteen states were in attendance”, and was very pleased with the turn out and results of the show. Even though this event was only the second annual sale, Dailey said he plans for many more in the future.
Dailey also said, he was glad to choose Kingston for his ranch. For anyone wanting to visit the new ranch, they are located on HWY 32, just follow the signs.
