BCF: Watch out for hunters and wild animals

With the wonderful weather and the various fall festivals that have been coming to the area these last weekends, I've had an enjoyable first few weeks of fall so far. We had the Merry Meadows Flea to the Market Fall Festival this past weekend and it had a large array of vendors, music and more. Also, LaJeanne's Plants 'N Things had a festival on October 9 called the "Wizard of Oz 2021 Festival." They were both well received. LaJeanne's will host it again this Saturday, October 16 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Bring the kids.

I am always sure to don my orange vest when walking in the woods out back during hunting season, but lately the color seems to attract wildlife. I have run across wild hogs, bear tracks, a few deer, and a mountain lion only 50 feet. away. Needly to say, I always have a whistle and my lab with me. It is either the cooler weather as they migrate to their areas, desperate for food or perhaps just being misplaced as more and more property is developed in the area. It is hard to say but certainly an eye opener for me to be more aware and cautious of my surroundings.

This Saturday, October 16 from 11 a.m. to 1p.m., the Buncombe Creek Volunteer Fire Dept. will be hosting their Open House. The ladies will have hot dogs, chips and cookies for the event. They have a lineup of guest speakers who will discuss points of interest in our area. Also, the Kingston Pharmacy will be there to give flu shots to anyone that would like one.

On Tuesday, October 19, the BCVFD will again hold their monthly meeting. All are welcome.

Another reminder that Sunday, October 31 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., the Texoma Southern Baptist Church will host their annual “Fall Festival” for toddler to 5th grade. There will be games, refreshments and a Cake Walk, along with so much more. Be sure to bring your kids over for some fun.

The Kingston schools are releasing students for fall break from today, October 13 to October 15. I sure hope the weather holds out for them. Stay safe!
