Madill senior signs with Southeastern

On May 12, 2021, Madill senior Mariana “Sister” Mendez signed her college intent. She signed to attend Southeastern Oklahoma State University and be a member of their track team.

She said she chose SE because of their welcoming nature.

“When I went on the tour, I was introduced to everybody and they welcomed me with open arms.”

She will be doing her normal functions for the team like throwing, Shot Put and Discus. However, she will also be looking to add two more events to her repertoire; the hammer and javelin.

She said she is not too worried about the two new additions.

“The hammer isn’t much different from the Shot Put, it just adds swinging,” she said. “For the Javelin, I’m going to have to do more running.”

She said she is already packing for her adventure, and is going to bring more than just a few belongings.

She is going to bring “a lot of patience” and the knowledge she has already learned from being on the Madill Track Team.

She said she is majoring in Psychology, but is not sure what she wants her minor to be; possibly business. Her ultimate goal is to get a master’s in Psychology.
