Some nights, one just wants to win and get back home. That is exactly what the Redskins did when they faced the Marietta Indians on January 12, 2021. It was not pretty but it still counts as a win — Redskins won 53 to 45.
The first quarter action was fast paced. Both teams were satisfied with pushing the ball up the court quickly. This did not appear to favor the Indians who did not have anyone over 6’ tall. The Redskins big men by comparison are fast, as fast as anyone on the team. Brady Brister had two field goals, Tucker Rumer and Dakota (Microwave) Weibner each had a three-pointer. Jesse Rose had a field goal and was 1 of 2 from the line. Jase Hays had two points. The Redskins and Indians were all tied up at 17 at the end of the first quarter.
The second quarter was another 17-point effort. Rumer continued his good shooting by adding another three-pointer and a two-point goal. Weibner added another three-pointer as well. Brister hit from threepoint range, as well. Marshall Ludrick and Hays both had field goals. The Redskin lead was now 11, 34 to 23.
Rumer was putting up his best game of the season. In the third, he connected again for a three-point goal. Cole Morgan sunk a deep three as well. Ludrick and Hays again added field goals. The Redskins still had the lead after three quarters, 44 to 26.
The fourth quarter went quickly with Rumer going 3 of 4 from the line. Hays was 2 of 2 on free throws, Brister added a three pointer. Redskins won, 53 to 38.
Box score: Rumer led the team with 13 total points including triplet three-points goals. Brister was next with 10, followed by Weibner and Hays with eight points each. Morgan had five points, Ludrick finished with four and Cason Reid had a field goal. As a team, Redskins shot, 5 of 9 for 55 %.
Freshman Reid Cason got more minutes tonight with Braden Matchen not suited out. He has a sore shoulder that continues to bother him. Reid played well in relief of Rose. He had a field goal and a couple of nice blocked shots.
