On April 15, Marshall County Deputy Kasey Cox was presented with a few accolades for his quick actions during a high-speed chase. The chase occurred on March 27 when two suspects fromDayton, Ohio decided they did not want to stop for Carter County officers.
The high-speed chase wove from Carter, through Johnston, then the outskirts of Marshall County. Cox said he was following the route of the pursuit through Facebook, and decided to spring into action.
`The chase lasted from Carter, Johnston then Marshall and I thought this person or persons was not going to stop any other way, so I set up,” Cox said.
The deputy activated his stop Strips, and that decision is what began to slow the vehicle from a break-neck speed to the slower pace that made it possible to stop the suspects. Between Cox’s quick actions and Madill Police Officer JT Moore — Moore activated the second set of Stop Strips officers were able to perform the maneuver that eventually stopped the chase.
Cox said the ceremony was not necessary, but it was nice.
“We don’t do it for recognition, but every now and then, it’s great to know I helped stop this vehicle,” Cox said.
Cox received a letter of commendation from Marshall County Sheriff Danny Cryer, a certificate from Stop Stick, and a “hit pin.”
The deputy reiterated that he was merely doing his job.
“Again, it’s not about the praise, but it feels extremely good that people recognize the hard work, sacrifice and dedication you put into your work,” Cox said. “And also recognize that deploying stop sticks is a dangerous option as well and a confirmation hit with no injuries and no law enforcement units had their tired punctured Is a good day.”
