Friday night, Feb. 7 saw the Redskins travel to Tishomingo to meet the Tishomingo Indians . Coach Taylor Weibner and team have had a bit of the “injury” bug lately with Brady Brister and Tucker Rumer. Rumer was scheduled to have surgery on his finger this week but it was canceled due to the weather. It will be rescheduled for the coming week. Brister, who had been hampered by a sore foot, has been resting it in a boot the past two weeks. He was back in uniform tonight. All things worked out for the positive and the Redskins were never in trouble winning 55 to 35.
In first quarter action Dakota (Microwave) Weibner came out of the dressing room and immediately hit a long three. That got things off to a great start and the Redskins began to assert themselves on the boards and on the defensive end of the court.
The Indians, though athletic, could not hit a perimeter shot and the going inside was tough. The combination of Jesse Rose and Drew Capps were allowing no second shots. Senior Kaden Johnson was penetrating and had two baskets. Capps and Rose hit for baskets. Brady Brister had a basket
Brady Brister had a basket and a free throw. He seemed to be moving fine up and down the court. Jase Hayes who was off to a slow start, was 0 for 2 from the line. He would pick up steam later however. At the end of the quarter the Redskins are leading 14 to 5.
The second quarter action saw the Redskins firing on all cylinders. Weibner was having his way with the Indians. He had three three point goals and was a perfect 2 of 2 from the line. Brister fired up one of his own. Brycen Ellisor has been getting minutes lately in relief of Rose. He had two inside buckets. Marshall Ludrick was 2 of 2 from the line. Despite the Indians picking it up little on offense they were unable to cut into the lead. The score after two quarters 36 to 19.
At the half time, Indians were presenting state championship rings to the girls softball team. On their way to the state championship they amassed a stellar 37 and 2 record. As they turned and faced the visiting Redskin fans they received a nice ovation. The Lady Redskins had given them one of their two losses on the season. Congratulations to them. Third quarter was time
Third quarter was time for Hayes to get busy he had two threes and a field goal. He was helped by Rose, Johnson who each had buckets. Brister added two free throws.
Ellisor was 1 of 2 from the line. Meanwhile the Indians could only manage eight points.
One point of excitement was a Tishomingo fan who was too close to the referee when expressing his opinion. He was quickly shown the front door. The score after three was 51 to 27.
The fourth quarter was over quickly . Both benches emptied and all the reserves saw playing time. Before that Johnson had a nice three point bucket. Brister added a free throw. The final score was 55 to 35.
