Oklahoma Baptist Homes for Children (OBHC) hosts its annual Back-to-School Style Show & Lunch for Baptist Home for Girls, Madill on Saturday, August 3, at 11:00 a.m. at the Ardmore Convention Center.
The purpose of the Back-to-School Style Show is to create community involvement and financial support for Baptist Home for Girls and girls in their care. With the money raised, a special fund is set up to provide yearly clothing and other basic needs for the girls living on campus.
“The Style Show is always a special time for our girls. It is amazing what it does for their self-esteem to see so many people come just to see them,” said Barbara Davis, OBHC Development Representative. “For some of the girls, this will be their first time on a stage, so it is such a blessing to watch them light up when they walk that runway.”
Before the event, attendees will be able to participate in the silent auction beginning at 9:00 a.m. After the silent auction, participants will enjoy lunch beginning at 11:00 a.m. while they watch girls beam with excitement modeling their favorite outfits on the runway. The residents typically model a back-to-school outfit and a church or professional outfit of their choosing. The program will also include musical performances by Speechless, a sign language group of girls on campus, as well as a senior recognition.
“The girls we care for often have experienced a lot of negative things in their life, and we have the opportunity to show them there are people who love and support them.” said Davis. “Those who attend the style show have an opportunity to meet the girls. They know the people in attendance are there just for them, and that speaks volumes to the girls of how important and loved they truly are.”
Tickets for the event are $15.00 and additional donations are welcome. Baptist Home for Girls is a ministry of OBHC. The mission of OBHC is to demonstrate God’s love by providing hope through empowering children and their families to follow Christ. OBHC serves more than 200 at-risk youth and families and not only provides for their physical needs, but also their emotional, educational and spiritual needs.
