Angels in Madill

I have been hanging out in Madill since the middle of September 2018.  Needless to say, I have grown fond of the Madill Record staff along with the entire community. I have favorite places to eat and shop here in Madill and of course I consider my friends at the Best Western Plus Sand Bass Inn and Suites honorary members of my family.

There are many reasons I believe God sent me to this part of rural America. However, this story is by far one that I know was heaven sent.

Several weeks ago, on a sunny afternoon, I made a decision to sit in my car for a few moments after pulling into the parking lot after lunch. It had been a wildly chaotic morning, rushing around to meet deadline, training new staff, cleaning the building and taking care of numerous necessary tasks. I am certain I was having a bit of a pity party while I sat there, reminiscing and reviewing the morning. Thinking about how I could have handled things better and castigating myself for not being more understanding and kind.

Running a newspaper operation is challenging in today’s world; fighting the constant misconception we are a dying media, finding the right people to entrust with the day to day business functions and being the keeper of a community’s history are exhilarating and exhausting all at the same time. I have learned the importance of taking a few moments during every day to reimagine, reflect and reenergize.
