The Weekly Word

In John 14:6, we have an amazing declaration. In fact, it is one of the greatest declarations ever made.

Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” Jesus said, “I am the Way.” He did not say, “I will show you the way.” He said, “I am the Way.” Jesus said, “I am the Truth.” He did not say, “I will tell you some truth. “ Jesus said, “I am the Truth.” Jesus is the embodiment of Truth. He is the fountain of all truth. Jesus said, “I am the Life.” He did not say, “I will tell you some secret of life.” He said, “I am the Life.” Jesus is the source of Life. Jesus went on to say, “No one comes to the Father except through Me.”

Jesus is the exclusive way to heaven. One can enter heaven only by the merits of Jesus Christ. Only by His merits can we be forgiven of our sins.

Only by His merits can we have peace with God. Jesus claimed that there was only one way to God and that He was that way. Jesus is the only mediator between God and man. No other religion, philosophy, or human effort can provide a way to God or heaven. By using the statement “I Am,” Jesus claims divinity and equality with God.

I once went out to eat with a former District Superintendent of mine. He is now in heaven. It was a buffet where you pay before you eat. He told the lady who was running the register, “If I do not see you again here, I will see you in heaven.” He later told me he always told people that.

The reason he told people that was He wanted them to think, “Am I going to heaven?”

Thought for the week: Am I going to heaven?

Prayer for the week: Pray that all in Madill will know that Jesus is the only way to heaven. Pray that they will place their trust in Him.
