A pair of non-district victories last week got the Madill Wildcat baseball team back on the winning track as they toppled Thackerville and Dickson.
Coach Jared Hayes’ troops blasted Thackerville, 13-0, in the opening contest of the week before dispatching Dickson by an 8-2 score. They were slated to return to District 4A-2 action this week against Plainview.
Madill wasted little time jumping on Thackerville as they plated 10 first inning runs and never looked back on the way to the run rule decision.
Derwin Sanchez and Cooper McHatton walked ahead of a Tyner Roberts single that jump started the attack. A Jagger Rogers double and singles from Abram Osornio and Jayse Thompson built the advantage to 4-0 before the first out was recorded.
Layne Doher contributed a two-run double and following a walk McHatton was hit by a pitch to force in another run. Roberts second hit of the frame drove in one with Rogers and Thompson coaxing bases loaded free passes for the final two tallies.
The Wildcats tacked on three more runs in the second to finish off the scoring as Daquan Williams and Rankin Page had singles prior to a hit by pitch and wild pitch. McHatton then belted a two-run double to left that capped the scoring.
On the mound, McHatton and Page combined for the two-hit shutout that included six strikeouts and two walks.
Roberts paced the nine-hit arsenal with two hits and two RBI. McHatton chipped in three runs batted in with Doher knocking in a couple.
Madill rode steady offensive contributions in the Dickson triumph as they scored at least once in five of the six frames in which they batted.
Rogers was stellar on the mound for the Wildcats as he twirled a complete game four-hitter, yielding just one earnedrunwith11strikeouts and three walks.
The Wildcats grabbed the early lead with first inning hits from Roberts and Rogers andtackedontwomoreinthe second spurred by singles by Sanchez and McHatton. Williams singled to add another run in the third.
