Wildcats drop nailbiters in Spring Break contests

A pair of near misses to begin Spring Break ended the Madill winning string as they prepared for the heart of district play beginning this week.

TheWildcatswillalsotake part in the Tishomingo Tournament over the weekend after early league 4A-2 action with Community Christian.

Madill’s late rally fell just short in a 6-5 loss to Class 5A Del City and the Wildcats then dropped a narrow 9-8 verdict to state-ranked Wynnewood. The Wildcats closed their week’s slate with an 8-0 setback against Comanche.

In the opening contest, the Wildcats got off to a fast start facing Del City as they cashed in a walk and error for a pair of runs on Jagger Rogers’ single to right field.

TheEaglescounteredwith three straight runs before Madill tied it in the third as Abram Osornio walked, advanced on a sac bunt from Daquan Williams as well as a Jace Thompson single. He finally came across with the run on a Rankin Page sacrifice fly.

Trailing 6-3 in the seventh inning, the Wildcats put together a final push as the first four batters of the frame reached base. Osornio got aboard on an error ahead of walks issued to Williams, Jayse Thompson and Page with a wild pitch tossed in for good measure.

A strikeout and Del City error narrowed the gap to a single run but the rally ended onagame-endingdoubleplay grounder.

Derwin Sanchez notched a double for one of the team’s three hits. Rogers and Thompson had one apiece for the other two.

No information was available on the Wynnewood game but in the Comanche contest it was Cooper McHatton that held the Indians scoreless over the first four stanza. Comanche however got things rolling after that andtheWildcatswereunable to match at the plate.

Tyner Roberts posted a pair of hits for Madill while Sanchez checked with one.
