Ozzy, a french/bull mastiff mix from Newcastle, Okla. has secured his spot in the Guiness World Record. He now holds the world record for the longest tongue on a living dog.
Ozzy, who has a tongue that measures 7.83 inches from the end of his snout to the tip of his tongue, is the pride and joy of Angela and Jon Pick.
Angela said that two years ago, her step-father commented on Ozzy's tongue and suggested they try to get him in GWR. Unfortunately, there was more to getting Ozzy recgonized than just submitting a request.
Pick said it was more than just measuring his tongue.
'We took him to a local vet to get him sedated and measured, but when I turned in his application the first time, we got automatically disqualified because you can't just go take a dog in to be sedated for only a measurement,' Pick said in an interview. 'You have to go in for a normal procedure of some sort and then do the measurement on top of that.'
However, a simple procedure that led to a few complications changed all that for Ozzy. He got neutered but had some complicatons. This led the Picks to reach out to Bella SPCA in Oklahoma City.
That was when the family mentioned their attempt to get Ozzy recognized by GWR. Thevetwasonthesamepage as the Picks and agreed to measure his tongue while he was sedated for a nail trim.
Ozzy, who is named after Ozzy Osbourne due to some of his family members being huge fans of his music, has a tongue that is 2.19 inches longer than the previous record holder, the previous was 5.64 inches.

'We do notice that he doesn't keep a lot of weight on like a lot of dogs his size because he doesn't eat as fast or as much,' Pick said. 'But he is healthy, and he gets plenty to eat. He has his dog food, and he has his table scraps. The dog loves pizza. The dog loves his double cheeseburgers from McDonald's.'
Pick also spoke about the slobber that comes from the tongue.
'You have to clean your house a lot because there is slobber on the walls,' Pick said. 'To be honest, he does slobber, but not as much as he could, so I'm thankful for that. He's not allowed to eat inside my house. He's got to go outside and eat because it is worse when he eats.'
Pick said Ozzy is a character and loves to shake after eating, which is something the family has to watch out for.
Pick also noted that Ozzy's tongue has been extremely long, even since birth. There are a few pics of him right after he was born with his tongue sticking out.
