There was little rest for the weary as the Madill basketball teams were right backinactionlastTuesdayas eachdroppednarrowverdicts to Lone Grove in their only action of the week.
The Lady Wildcats fell 51-46 in slipping to 3-2 on the year while Madill boys dipped to 2-3 after a 52-46 setback.
Madill closes out first semester action Friday night on the road at Ardmore.
Girls
The Lady Wildcats outscored the visiting Lady Horns in three of the four quarters but weren’t able to overcome a frigid shooting start.
Madill managed just five first quarter points on single buckets by Allyson Coles and Karma Williams along with an Arlette Andrade free throw in a quick paced openingstanzathatsawLone Grove snag a 20-5 edge.
The second period was much better as Andrade exploded for 12 points herself to single handedly outpoint the visitors, but it was still a 31-24 deficit at the break.
Andrade and Lamiyah Brown, who went scoreless in the first half, combined for 11 points in the third frame to help clip the advantage to 41-35 going into the fourth stanza. The Lady Wildcats weren’t able to get much closer in the final frame despite an 11-point scoring burst from Brown.
Madill was led by Andrade’s20pointsasBrown contributed 15. Coles tallied five with two each from Williams and Chloe Miller.
Boys
An ice-cold offensive start dug the Wildcats a massive hole from which they never could fully recover.
Lone Grove snagged an 18-7 edge after one period and appeared on the brink of blowing it wide open with a 28-12 cushion at halftime. That’swhenMadillseemingly came to life however.
TheWildcatscaughtfirein doubling their entire first half output in a 12-4 third quarter flurry sparked by Sammy Duran’s eight points as they narrowed the gap to 32-24.
Coach Kyle Jessie’s unit got even closer during a 22-point fourth quarter frenzy that was fueled by Brayden Jowers’ 12 points. Jagger Rogers and Ryan Anderson combined for the other 10 points but it wasn’t enough to completely get over the hump with Longhorns canning eight of 10 free throws down the stretch.
Jowers posted a teamhigh 13 points with Duran also hitting double figures with 11. Rogers scored eight, Anderson had six while Cash CooperandJaxonDiaztallied three apiece along with two points from Christian Smith.
