Boen Proctor returned an interception for a touchdown on the game’s opening play spurring Kingston to a big first half as the Redskins cruised past Comanche, 3614, in the final non-district game of the year.
Kingston came out on fire offensively as well with touchdowns on its first four possessions, building a 36-0 halftimecushion,andcoasted the rest of the way to improve their overall record to 2-1.
“I thought we came out focused and played pretty well,” head coach Brad Hill commented. “We had a pick six on the first play and then scored on our first four opportunities. It was good to see how we would respond after a disappointing loss and I thought we came out focused and responded well.
“We were able to get a lot of kids in and a lot of reps across the board, especially in the second half. The main thing waswecameouthealthywith a very big game coming up.”
The Redskin offense had contributions in multiple different areas while piling up 307 yards of total offense, including 218 on the ground.
Parks Ratzlaff paced the ground assault with five carries for 72 yards and a touchdown while Proctor carried four times for 70 yardsandtworushingscores. Logan Stephens tallied five totesfor34yardswithbackup runningbackadding17yards on six carries.
Senior quarterback Reid Pattersontalliedjust10yards on one rush but completed all seven of his passes for 89 yards, including a scoring toss to Hudson Everhart.
“Kelly Gray ran the ball hardandEthanMowlesdida nice job at quarterback for us in the second half,” Hill said.
Next on the slate for the Redskins following this week’s bye in a pivotal district showdown with Kiefer that could ultimately determine the District 2A-3 champion.
A year ago, Kingston won the overtime battle 29-28 in what determined the league champ.
“We have a very challengingopponentcoming up in Kiefer,” Hill added. “It’s going to be a physical and mental challenge because of their speed and toughness. Both teams understand the implications and how big a district contest this is in the very first week.
“Each of us returns a lot and this could go a very long way to determining the district champ this year. It’s probably going to be the most exciting game of the season.”
