Madill’s boys took second and the girls were third in theseason-openingRedRiver Shootout cross country meet Saturday in Marietta.
Three Wildcats posted Top 10 individual finishes on the boys’ side with senior Jose Campos leading the way in eighth with a time of 19 minutes, 54.72 seconds on the 5,000-meter course. Fellow senior Ryder Douglas checked in ninth in 20:23.85 with freshman Jayden Barbosa notching a 10th place mark of 20:24.20 in his first high school meet.
Alex Orta was just off that place, wrapping up in 17th with a time of 21:05.36. Blane Hawthorne was 25th at22:22.47,AroddyCamacho ended 27th in 22:35.31 and Saul Martinez placed 35th at 23:49.45.
The Wildcats had several other runners that competed in the opener but did not place. Those included Yadel Sanchez, 24:33.40; Gael Gallegos, 24:39.38; Josue Sanchez. 25:16.75; Vincent Acquaviva, 26:11.61; Alexander Garcia, 26:20.57; Juan Padronrodriguez, 27:29.68; Ronny Rivera, 27:43.37; Yael Corona, 27:48.52; Dayton Gimenez, 28:37.71; Aaron Rodriguez, 28:47.95; Enrique Martinez, 29:29.52; Azaeel Rivera, 29:59.15; Juan Narvaez, 29:59.72; and Isaac Quiroz, 36:54.32.
Madill’s top girls’ runner on the 3,200-meter course was senior Yadira Barbosa, who clocked in at 13 minutes, 42.51 seconds for third place.
Caylee Martinez added a Top 20 time in 16th by posting a 15:44.97 finish. Jayleen Vasquez took 20th in 16:14.28, Jeylah Cabrales was just behind in 21st with a time of 16:20.62, Katelyn Acquaviva pitched in a 26th at 16:49.52 with Isabell Stuckey in 29th at 17:38.99 and Samantha Ortiz placing 30th in 17:40.34.
Other Lady Wildcat runners and their times included Hadon Stuckey, 18:16.65; Klarivel Aldava, 18:44.80; andAranzaSalinas,20:19.59.
Next on the slate for Madill runners in the home Annual Madill Cat Run for high school, junior high and elementary competitors on Saturday.
