Madill baseball drops pair to Ardmore

Madill’s high school baseball squad wrapped up district play last week in dropping a pair of games to rival Ardmore, gearing up for this week’s playoffs.

The Wildcats will join Ada and Woodward in the Class 4A regional tournament at Chickasha later this week.

InthefirstgamefacingArdmore theWildcatsstruggled to get the offense untracked in a 14-4 loss before falling 19-13 in a game two slugfest.

Madill had the early lead in the opening matchup, scoring a run in the first frame thanks to a Derwin Sanchez RBI single. Ardmore rallied with four tallies in the second to only open the floodgates on the way to 11 hits.

Kris Grimaldo had a nice game for the Wildcats with three hits while adding a run scored. Sanchez and James Valadez chipped in two hits apiece with Mikal Pruitt and DaquanWilliamsalsoadding a double each.

Coach Jared Hayes’ club traded punches with the Tigers early in the second contest, even taking what looked to be a commanding advantage with a seven-run third inning eruption.

Madill plated two in the second frame keyed by a Michael Cramp run-scoring single. Trailing by a pair of runs in the third, the Wildcats got rolling by batting all the way through the order en route to a 9-4 edge. All seven tallies came with the aid of only one hit (a Pruitt single) combined with seven free passesandanArdmoreerror.

Ardmore chipped one run off the lead in the fourth and then exploded for 10 to take full control in the fifth inning.

In total it was 15 unanswered runs by the Tigers until Madill managed a pair in the sixth that proved to be the final runs as they utilized six free passes.

TheWildcatsonlyhadfour hits, which were all singles from Valadez, Pruitt, Sanchez and Cramp with Cramp driving in three.
