Scoring has been tough to comebyduringaruggedearly slate of games for the Madill baseball team, but the Wildcats managed an offensive outburst against City View in their tournament.
The Wildcats notched a 14-9 win over City View, Texas for that initial victory after dropping a pair to Sulphur and also falling twice to a strong Oklahoma Christian School group in district action.
In the win, Madill erased a 4-0 early deficit by exploding for six runs in the bottom of the second frame. They strung together four hits coupled with three free passes.
Burgess and Jowers started the uprising with singles and a Roberts walk loaded the bases. Neeley was hit by a pitch to force in the initial run with Sanchez adding another on an RBI single to right. Roberts stole home to add another tally with Valadez tying the game moments later on a single.
Madill notched a couple of additional steals and utilized a wild pitch to surge in front 6-4.
City View cashed in three runs to retake the lead in the next frame but the Wildcats had the answer by scoring five times in the bottom of the frame to take the lead for good.
Coach Jared Hayes’ team batted through the order again as Burgess sparked the flurry with another leadoff single and eventually came around to score on a double steal that tied the game. Sanchez and Valadez tossed in run-scoring hits ahead of a Pruitt double that drove in a pair.
The Wildcats tacked on a run in the fourth keyed by Roberts’ single and two walks. Two more scored in the fifth thanks to a Grimaldo single and a Roberts double.
Pruitt picked up the pitching triumph with four and one-third strong frames of relief. He yielded four unearned runs on just two hits and struck out four.
Madill posted a seasonhigh 12 hits in just five innings with Sanchez, Valadez, Pruitt, Burgess and Roberts all contributing two. Grimaldo and Jowers finished with one hit apiece.
