Florita Phillips

Florita Phillips, 92 of Durant, Okla. went home to be with her Lord on November 3, 2024. She was born on June 8, 1932, in Stockdale, Texas to the late Daniel and Marie Crider. Florita was raised in Texas and Oklahoma and graduated from Kingston High School in 1949.

She married James Melvin Phillips in Corpus Christi, Texas on November 25, 1951. They moved to Pomona, Calif, where she worked as a nurse for many years. After retiring, they moved to Madill and then later to the Baptist Retirement Village. Melvin preceded her in death on  May 24, 2007.

Florita loved her family, her church and her friends, but above all, she loved her Heavenly Father. She was truly a faithful servant and taught Sunday School for many years.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Madill.

She was an inspiration to all who knew her.

Florita was preceded in death by her husband; parents; son, Steve; daughter, Vanessa Searcy; granddaughter, Vanessa Calzada; sisters, Wilma Jean Melton, Nonnie Reese and Wiletta Waggoner.

She is survived by her children, Jimmy Dean Phillips of Durant, Okla., Doug Phillips of Durant, Okla., Barbara Jean Phillips and husband Wayne Rogers of Reno, Nev., Cindy Buysman and husband Russell of Durant, Okla.; grandchildren, Christina Scrivens, Cinthia Phillips, Michelle Phillips, Nicole Hamilton, Tiffany Leddington, Jennifer Buysman and Nicole Sadler; six great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; sisters, Leona Hargis of Ardmore, Okla., Verna Carpenter of Dallas, Texas and Edith Walker of Ada, Okla.

Visitation will be Friday, November 8, 2024 at Watts Memorial Chapel in Madill, Okla. from 9:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Funeral service will be Friday, November 8, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at Watts Memorial Chapel in Madill, Okla.

Mark Williams and Jerry Walser will officiate the service. Interment will be at Shiloh Cemetery in Mt.

Enterprise, Texas. Services will be under the direction of Watts Funeral Home in Madill, Okla. Condolences may be sent to wattsfuneralhome.com.
