Solid individual performances spurred the Madill boys to a fifth-place team finish and the girls 10th in the Edmond Pre-State Cross Country Meet last weekend.
In the Class 4A division, the Wildcats only checked in behind nearby rivals Byng, Plainview and Sulphur along with private school power Crossings Christian.
On the girls side, junior Yadira Barbosa posted a stellar time of 12 minutes, 34.33 seconds to claim third individually in pacing the Lady Wildcat showing.
Leading the charge for the MadillboyswasseniorJames Valadez, placing 11th in the competition with a time of 18:11.20 on the boys’ course.
Junior Triston Barnes clocked in 17th with an 18:24.77 and fellow junior Jose Campos was just behind, ending in the Top 20 as well at 20th while posting a time of 18:39.01. The Wildcats picked up a 73rd place finish from freshman Blane Hawthorne with a mark of 21:29.40, senior Jose Menchaca checked in 90th in 22:16.37 and sophomore Gael Gallegos was 92nd at 22:31.33.
Senior Rodrigo Guevara added a time of 23:09.18 for 104th, freshman Xavier Quintanillaended109thwith a 23:19.40, freshman Azaeel Riveratook142ndin26:23.84 and junior Eduardo Yanez rounded out the Wildcat runners in 162nd at 29:53.85.
In total there were 167 boys competitors in the Class 4A division.
Following Barbosa’s medalist effort for the Lady Wildcats, senior Kaia Henry was the next highest finisher in 54th by clocking in at 16:08.10 while sophomore Katelyn Acquaviva was just behind in 59th with a mark of 16:43.01 and senior Yvette Arciaga checked in 61st in 16:51.69. Freshman Klarivel Aldava contributed a 70th place time of 17:52.88.
