TFD: Thank you community

The Texoma Volunteer Fire Department is in desperate need for a Texoma Fire Board volunteer. Candidates need to be a paid member of the Texoma Fire District and be able to attend the meetings thatoccuronthefirstThursday of each month at 6:30 p.m. at the auxiliary building. Anybody interested should contact Paula Zimmerman or Sheila Sikes for more information.

TheTVFDauxiliarymeeting was held on August 19. The meeting was called to order at 1:30 p.m.

All 20 members recited the Pledge of Allegiance. Jeannie D. presented the humorous reading and Gwen Wilson, the Director of Hope for Marshall County,wastheguestspeaker. She spoke to the group about HFMC, which is a nonprofit organization that assists residents in need. It was founded in 2009 as a Pay-it-Forward group and continues to assist Marshall County residents. Wilson said the greatest need is food and hygiene items.

The food bank is located on Oakland and volunteers fill each box is customized for each individual receiving the box.

She also spoke about the Blessing Boxes. There are nine boxes in Marshall County, and functions as a leave an item, take an item honor system.

HFMC also offers delivery options for those without the means to pick up the items. Wilson said they currently deliver to 28 veterans and 29 senior citizens.

To be able to assist residents in need, HFMC hosts several fundraisers throughout the year. Fill the Sleigh is their largestannualfundraiser.This year’s fundraiser is slotted for November 2. There are over 50 characters who walk around and interact with the children.

They added a new event to this year’s fundraiser, breakfast with Santa and the Disney Princesses. The children will be able to take their pictures with the characters.

Some services that HFMC offer are teen night out, prom dressing night, Valentines for Seniors (school children make Valentine boxes), and heat and air programs.

The program will serve over 300 children, veterans and seniors for Christmas.

The organization awards an annual scholarship, where they choose one senior to receive a $1,500 unrestricted scholarship.

The Texoma Fire Auxiliary meets on the 3rd Monday of the month at 1:30 p.m. with a social gathering at 1 p.m. prior to the meeting. The next meeting will occur on Monday, October 20, 2024.

The Texoma Fire District Board of Directors meets the first Thursday of the Month at the Training/Community Center located at 10978 Parkview at 6:30 pm. The next meeting will be on October 3, 2024.

The Exercise/Stretching classes are on Monday and Wednesday at 10 a.m. Cards/ Games are on the second and fourth Tuesday at 12 p.m. Auxiliary members are welcome to join in.

For anyone interested in renting the Texoma Community Building, Contact Gayla Freeman at 580-565-1400. Return calls might be delayed as this is the Auxiliary phone and it is being monitored on a twice a week basis. So please give plenty of heads-up time. The cost is $75 per day. The building can only be rented by a member of the Texoma Fire District. Be advised, the capacity of the auxiliary building is 158.

The Lighthouse Methodist Churchlocatedat4923Alberta Creek Road provides an evening meal from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. Lighthouse Kids Program for grade school children consisting of Bible stories, crafts and games is held each Wednesday 6 p.m. to 7p.m. following the meal.
