For years, it has been typical for a family to move to a different city, maybe even to a different state. The reasons for the move could be for employment, to be closer to family or just for a fresh start. Whatever the reason for moving, families typically prefer to move somewhere that is considered safe.
Motovo Real Estate compiled a list of the most dangerous cities in Oklahoma. They concluded the top ten after looking at several factors. They used the FBI Uniform Crime Report to look at four crime categories, murder, violent crimes,propertycrimesand total crimes.
Number one on the list was Oklahoma City. Oklahoma City topped the list due to the high number of property crimes per person. It also shared the first place ranking with another city for the high number of murders per person.
On average, residents had a one in 15 chance of being a victim of a crime compared to most cities that were one out of 20.
Ardmore came in second place because of its number of violent crimes. The number of murders wasn’t particularly high, but it ranked 10th place in all the cities in Oklahoma in violent crimes overall. It placed second highest violent and property crimes per person in the state. This brings an Ardmore resident’s chance of being a victim up to one in 14.
Tulsa took third place because of the number of crimes overall. It ranked sixth in the state in that category, and fifth in the state for most murders. Thosetwofactorscombined makes it the third most dangerous city.
One shouldn’t let the name Lawton fool them. Even though it has “law” in its name, it’s still the fourth most dangerous city. It ranked third in the state for murders, eighth in the state for property crimes andseventhformostcrimes overall. All these pushed Lawton into fourth place.
Coming in fifth place is Ada. It ranked fourth in murders per capita and ninth in total crimes.
EventhoughDelCitytied with Oklahoma City for the most murders per capita, it only placed sixth on the list. It had the seventh highest number of crimes per person, a majority of them were thefts.
Shawnee leads the pack in the number of assaults, but only comes in seventh place on the list. The low number of murders, rapes and robberies is what placed it lower on the list.
Midwest City ranks high on the lists in murder and violent crimes, but is only considered the eighth most dangerous city in Oklahoma because there aren’t as many of the other crimes.
Muskogee came in ninth on the list even though it has the most violent crimes per person out of any other city on the list. Most of the crimes were assaults, but had a few robberies, rapes and even one murder sprinkled in.
Living up to its name and rounding out the list is Warr Acres. Even though it took tenth place overall, it had the 11th most violent crimes in the state, giving residents a one in 18 chance of being a victim of a crime.
