Willy Jim Gaines Jr., 55, of Madill, Okla, passed away on July 10, 2024, at Mercy Hospital in Ardmore, Okla. He was born on September 10, 1968, in Ardmore, Okla., and was the son of the late Willy Jim Gaines and Ida Mae Byars Gaines. Willy spent his formative years in Marietta, graduating from high school in 1987. His career was marked by dedication and hard work, having worked at Bluebonnet Feed in Ardmore, Red River Sale Barn in Overbrook, Oklahoma, Lady Bug Stallion Station in Madill, and most recently, CM Trailers for the past 13 years.
In2008,WillymovedtoMadillwherehe found love and married Christy Machell Hughes on October 18, 2009, in Tishomingo, Okla. He was a valued member of the Madill Round-up Club and found solace and community at New Beginnings Church. Willy had a passion for working with horses, enjoyed roping, and cherished peaceful moments on his back porch. However, his greatest joy was his family, especially his granddaughter, Bird.
He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; grandfather, Frank Peercy who was living with Willy at the time of his passing; sister, Anna Mae Gaines; brother, Stevie Gaines; brother-in-law, Dumpy Hughes; sister-in-law, Margie Roskam He is survived by his loving wife, Christy Gaines of Madill, Okla; children, Chase Cavitt and wife Kara of Marietta, Okla., Chance Cavitt and wife Emily of Marietta, Okla., Zack Melton of Mead, Okla., Dale Martin and Hunter Martin of Madill, Okla.; six grandchildren, Haven, Kash and Memphis Matthews, Jaselyn “Bird” Cavitt, Hailey Martin and Cashlee Martin; brothers, Brandon Gaines and wife Skylar of Ardmore, Okla., Terry Gaines of Madill, Okla., and Jeffery Gaines of Ardmore, Okla.; mother-in-law, Christine Hughes of Marietta, Okla.; sisters-in-law, Sherry Whitmore of Marietta, Okla., Neda Wilson of Marietta, Okla., LaDonna Hughes of Healdton, Okla.; brothers-in-law, Eddie Hughes andwifeJenniferofHulbert,Okla.,JerryRoskamofArdmore, Okla; several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Visitation will be Thursday, July 18, 2024, at the Watts Funeral Home in Madill, Okl.a from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and a family hour from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
The funeral service will be Friday, July 19, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at New Beginnings Church, Madill, Oklahoma. Don and Travis Williams will officiate the service. Interment will be at Dunbar Cemetery in Marietta, Okla. Services will be under the direction of Watts Funeral Home in Madill, Okla. Condolences may be sent to wattsfuneralhome.com.
