The Texoma Fire Auxiliary met on June 17, 2024. There were 17 members present and all recited the Pledge of Allegiance.

Shane Jemison of the Chickasaw Nation was the guest speaker today. He has been with the Chickasaw Nation for nine years and is is from Wapanuka, Okla. He has worked three years with the grant program and three years with community development.TheChickasaw Nation has 80,000 citizens and is headquartered in Ada. They have 14,000 employees and 24,000 jobs over the state of Oklahoma.

They have 200 programs in the core values services program including WIC, Senior Care,Veteransandwork programs.ThenewWestBay casino has 170 employees and they estimate making $168 million over the next five years.

This will boost tourism in thisarea.TheChickasawNation also has a children's village. Itisasafeandnurturing village with eight cottages. Each cottage has two house parents for the children that live there. These kids attend the Kingston schools.

The Light Horse Police Department has 100 officers and works throughout Marshall County. They have a programforpublicsafetythat lends support and help with tornado relief.

They have a drone used to make maps and detect damages. The Chickasaw Nation has a health clinic. They also support their students, elders and veterans.

A few residents asked Jemison a few questions. One resident inquired to if the casino has a storm shelter. Jemison replied that it does not.

“Why are the children living at the home,” asked another resident.

Jemison said some are orphans and some came from badhomeenvironments.The homeisatmaximumcapacity with currently housing 20 children.

The group recognized the three birthdays in attendance. Lisa, Crystal and Gayla all celebrated their June birthday. Each one received a gift.

The fire department received 29 calls for June. There were eight fires. Four were structure fires and four accidents.

There were 21 medical calls. There was also a drowning on July 14 and, currently, the body has not been found.

The department has five new firemen, four men, one woman.

The Texoma Fire Auxiliary meets on the 3rd Monday of the month at 1:30 p.m. with a social gathering at 1 p.m. prior to the meeting. The next meeting will occur on Monday, July 21, 2024.

The Texoma Fire District Board of Directors meets the first Thursday of the Month at the Training/Community Center located at 10978 Parkview at 6:30 pm. The next meeting waa held on July 9. 2024. All are welcome to attend.

The Exercise/Stretching classes are on Monday and Wednesday at 10 a.m. Cards/ Games are on the second and fourth Tuesday at 12 p.m. Auxiliary members are welcome to join in.

For anyone interested in renting the Texoma Community Building, Contact Gayla Freeman at 580-565-1400. Returncallsmightbedelayed as this is the Auxiliary phone and it is being monitored on a twice a week basis. So please give plenty of heads-up time. The cost is $75 per day. The building can only be rented by a member of the Texoma Fire District. Be advised, the capacity of the auxiliary building is 158.

The Lighthouse Methodist Church located at 4923 Alberta Creek Road provides an evening meal from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. Lighthouse Kids Program for grade school children consisting of Bible stories, crafts and games is held each Wednesday 6 p.m. to 7p.m. following the meal.
