Madill baseball field damaged

Sometime between the evening of May 30 and the morning of May 31, the Madill baseball fields were left in a muddy mess. After the excessive amount of rain the area had received, the fields were not in any condition to be used, however, someone else didn't seem to see it that way.

The City of Madill posted on social media pictures of what appeared to be either bicycle or motorcycle tracks in the outfield area. In addition, there were photos of the bases left buried in the mud and several sets of tracks of whatappearedtobesomeone running around the bases.

City of Madill employee Tracy Cain said some volunteers stepped up to assist in cleaning up the mess.

“The cost of repair was man hours of some amazing volunteers that came forward,” Cain said.

Cain also said it was disappointing to find the field in such poor conditions right before the annual softball tournament.

“The Mack Stafford Memorial Sand Bass Scholarship softball tournament is tomorrow morning starting at 8am so to find the field in this condition was very disappointing,” said Cain.

The only added cost to the fields will be the addition of gates. Cain said that each gate will cost about $350, depending on size, and there will need to be at least six gates.

The city is asking anyone that is wanting to use the baseball fields to call (580) 795-3833 to make a reservation.
