Carlos Derris Cole, 83, of Kingston, Okla. passed away on Tuesday, September 12, 2023, surrounded by his family and friends. He was born on July 30, 1940, in Elk City, Okla. to the late Fred Jones Cole Jr. and Wilma Iris Smith Cole.
Carlos graduated from Kingston High School in 1958 and later joined the United States Army serving four years. Carlos began working for the Oklahoma Department of Transportation in 1970. He later moved his family to Moore, Okla. after being transferred, and continued working for the State of Oklahoma. In the late 70’s, Carlos started his own Land Surveying company where he remained until his passing.
Carlos was instrumental in many young men’s lives helping them to become successful in the very field he chose at a young age himself. He returned to his hometown of Kingston where he loved to be and lived until his passing. Carlos was a member of the Kingston Alumni Association, the Society of Registered Land Surveyors and New Hope Baptist Church in Kingston, Okla. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, listening to blue grass music, cooking, and watching OU football and the Dallas Cowboys. He touched the lives of so many people and to know him was to love him.
Carlos was preceded by his parents; stepmother, Dorothy Lee Denson Cole; sister, Becky Gunsolus; brother, Donnie Fred Cole and many other family and friends.
Carlos is survived by his children,Kenny Cole, Fayetteville, Ark., Kim Hills and husband Rich of Tuttle, Okla., Karen Cole and Rich Kellogg of Oklahoma City, Okla.; the mother of his children, Janie Cole; grandchildren, Morgan and husband Justin Emerson, Cole Sharp, Graysen Hills, Whitney Johnson,Devon Simpson, Kanyen Cole, and Kylee Cole; great grandchildren, Waylon, Brayden, Makinley,Rhylee,DaxtonandDailee;sisters,CarrolPruitt and husband Jack of Kingston, Okla.; Deanna Hale and husband Larry of Ardmore, Okla.; brother, Curtis Cole and Sherry of Ardmore, Okla.; numerous nieces, nephews, family members and friends.
Donations can be made to the Simmons Bank in Madill “Carlos Cole Building Fund Kingston Alumni” Visitaion was held Friday, September 15, 2023, at the Watts Funeral Home in Kingston, Okla. from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. with family hour from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
The funeral service was Saturday, September 16, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at the Watts Funeral Home in Kingston, Okla. Elmer Whitehead and Steve Harris officiated the service. Interment was at the Kingston Cemetery in Kingston, Okla. Services were under the direction of Watts Funeral Home in Madill, Okla. Condolences may be sent to wattsfuneralhome.com.
