The Kingston Lady Redskins grabbed an 8 to 7 victory over the Davis Lady Wolves in walk-off fashion on Monday, August 14. The game came down to the wire.
After trailing seven in the third, Khloe Hall and Kenadea Elkins were a force, each collecting two hits for the Lady Redskins. Ayli Minor and Hall each drove in two runs,puttingKingstononthe board. Seniors AJ Stepp and PaytonDoughertyhelpedthe Lady Redskins tie the game at seven in the bottom of the ninth when Jayda Foster drew a walk, scoring the winning run.
The team hit the road Tuesday, August 15, to face off with the Lone Grove Lady Longhorns. After a strong showing by the Lady Longhorns, Kingston fell 12 to 1, making it their first district game loss and second loss of the season.
The Lady Redskins opened the Tishomingo Tournament on August 17, showing up in full force to triumph over the Dickson Lady Comets, 10 to 7.FreshmanAlyssaLangford got the team fired up with a bases-clearing triple. The rally extended when freshman Hall doubled to lead Kingston10to4inthebottom of the third inning.
While Kingston put up a fightagainsttheWilsonLady Eagles and Antlers Lady Bearcats, errors allowed the Wilson Lady Eagles to take the lead, 6 to 5, and the Antlers Lady Bearcats to win 3 to 1, sending the Lady Redskins to battle the Marietta Lady Indians in the consolation game. Kingston took the win when they steamrolled Marietta 13 to 0.
The Lady Redskins team is shaping up to be competitive under the leadership of new head coach Aaron Minor as they clutch their seventh win of the season. Foster said that no matter what, they have always fight back.
“I would say that even when we dig ourselves holes, we have a lot of fight in us,” Foster said. “This team has a lot of potential, and when we all come together, we are not just a team but a family that helps and supports each other.”
Coach Minor said he has his eyes on the prize.
“It is either the state tournament or bust,” Minor said. “Now that we know what a great and capable team we have in the Lady Redskins, we are hoping to be state bound.”
