On Thursday morning, August 17, Oklahoma Senator James Lankford made a stop in Madill to visit with staff and employees at Oklahoma Steel and Wire and J. Price Energy, LLC. He was in town for a brief time to encourage the employees and to tour the new facilities. For anybody who hasn’t had a chance to meet the people who own or work at these two facilities, they should most certainly do so and take a tour.
The senator lingered a few minutes at J. Price and spoke about Marshall County. One of the subjects he spoke about was his passion for a new bipartisan bill he is trying to get through congress called the Charitable Giving Act.
A few years ago, tax deductions and their limits were changed and placed on a higher scale. This not only caused less people to donate to charities but placed a burden on those depending on donations. This, in turn, caused a strain on local nonprofits and businesses who may have taken advantage of the tax deductions and supported their hometown charities.
The Charitable Giving Act bill would substantially lower the limit that can be donated. Therefore, allowing more people to contribute more to their county nonprofit agencies that help support community needs. Although it would still be a year or so as the wheels turn slow on progress, he was very confident it would pass.
He also took a moment to talk about faith and his time at Falls Creek Baptist Conference Center. Lankford spent approximately 15 years as the director of youth programming at Falls Creek before getting into Congress.
Falls Creek is a campground located approximately 80 miles south of Oklahoma City. It attracts over 50,000 campers from grades six through 12 every summer.
Cody Bradshaw was unable to be in town for the senator’s visit. He said he appreciated Senator Lankford so much for stopping by to tour their new facility and to speak to the employees there at J. Price Energy LLC.
Next Friday, J. Price will be having a grand opening of their new facility, and everyone is invited out to look around.
