Cheryl Mayfield is the owner of Southern Sass Boutique and Hat Bar located at 405 HWY 32 in Kingston. They offer ladies’ western and boho clothing, men’s wear, gifts, the Sip & Dip shop, and so much more. Mayfield is a retired massage therapist. She owned and operated a spa and massage school for twenty-six years in Ardmore.
She said the boutique was a product of wanting something different after owning the spa.
“When I sold the spa, I wanted to do something different,” Mayfield said. “I love clothes, so this was the perfect fit for me. I started in Ardmore, at Main Street Mercantile as one of many vendors within the shop.”
“When I started dating Kenny Wheeler and moved here with him, it was obvious that it was the right move to move the shop location as well,” she continued. “The Kingston Community has been unbelievably welcoming to me both personally and business wise. I am truly happy to now be able to say my home is in Kingston, Oklahoma.”
Mayfield said her favorite part of the business is opening the boxes and seeing the incoming merchandise. Although she knows what it is when she orders it, she said it feels just like “Christmas every time a box gets opened.”
She said her favorite memory, so far, was the day Kenny called her and said, “Baby, I got us a building!” She is sixty-six years old and has a combined total of six kids that are all grown and successful, now with the addition of Kenny, her combined kids are up to nine with fifteen grandkids.
“Life truly is good. Every day is a new gift!”
