Many residents have heard about a program in Marshall County called Southern Oklahoma Animal Resources (S.O.A.R.). Yet, many people don’t know the depths of the program.
Kathy Germany, the one who runs the program, “steps up when many step out.” With her unconditional love for animals, she has been rescuing them for 27 years.
The late Dr. Louis Nightingale passed on their love of animals to Germany by teaching Germany everything they knew. They also helped Germany enroll in classes at A&M Veterinary School. Germany started S.O.A.R. in 2004, and it became a 501 3c in 2008.
From birth to death, there is always an animal in need. Some animals are thrown away like trash, beaten or mistreated in some manner. Germany and S.O.A.R. takes the neglect serious and fights for every animal.
Many residents know that S.O.A.R. hands out free food throughout the month. However, many don’t know that the organization helps in so many other ways.
Many animals need surgery to remove a mangled limb, or set a broken bone, some need life-saving medications, some only need food, love and a warm blanket and, sadly, nothing can help the animal and they need to be put down. S.O.A.R. is there with the animal every step of the way to make sure they feel loved.
S.O.A.R. also offers pet owners reduced wormer, parvo and rabies shots. They also offer pet microchipping for a discounted rate. The organization also assists pet owners in finding reduced spay and neuter clinics.
S.O.A.R. relies on donations to keep assisting Marshall County fur babies safe and secure. Call (580) 795-7066 or visit their Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/pages/Southern-Oklahoma-Animal-Resources/849027948511885 for more information.
