Business spotlight: Tan2Go
For anybody that loves the look of a tan, but hates the hassle of getting one, there is great news. There is a new place in Marshall County that offers a fast, easy, and hasslefree tanning option: Tan2go.
The operators of Tan2go, Hannah and Travis Whitmire, live on Purser Road, just outside of Madill. Travis works at J&I and is part of the music ministry at church. Hannah is a stay at home mom to their little boy and has started a business inside their home.
Hannah started the business for two reasons, and both have to do with family. One of the reasons are simple, her sister owns the company so, she opened a branch. The second reason is closer to her heart.
“My grandpa died of skin cancer, so I wanted to open an alternative to sun tanning,” she said.
There has been so much research that ties skin cancer to tanning beds. So much so that in November 2017, Oklahoma Senate Bill 765 was voted in and made a law. Nobody under the age of 18 is allowed to use a tanning bed, even with parent’s consent.
Hannah said that her sister’s best friend recently had a bout with skin cancer due to tanning beds.
Even though she has only been open for three weeks, she has an amazing support system. Her sister has been open for three years, and has three locations: one each in Blanchard, Tuttle and Nichols Hills.
Hannah is ready for the switch from tanning beds to spray tanning. Tanning beds have been the go-to for years, but since cancer research has proven it contributes to skin cancer, spray tans are becoming more popular.
The cost difference between beds and hand sprays are a benefit, as well. The individual cost for each is similar. Typically, one session is $25 for each. However, it is the end result that makes the difference. To achieve the perfect tan in a tanning bed takes several sessions, making it more cost restrictive than a spray tan, where you can get a tan in one visit, Hannah Whitmire said.
She said there are two cool things when it comes to spray tanning. For one, it is portable. It can be folded and taken anywhere somebody might need a tan. Also, there is a chance to meet celebrities and unique people.
“My sister has spray tanned Miss Oklahoma,” Hannah said.
