Cantrell attends Milbank conference

OklahomaStateRep.Josh Cantrell recently returned from Chicago, Ill., where he participated in the Milbank Fellows Program conference, a gathering that brings together health policy leaders from across the country to discuss challenges, innovations and the future of public health systems. The Milbank Fellows Program, associated with the broader work of the Milbank Memorial Fund, is designed to deepen the expertise of elected officials and policy leaders working at the intersection of healthcare delivery and public policy.

The Chicago conference served as a forum for exchanging ideas on improving healthoutcomes, particularly in rural and underserved communities, issues that have long been central to Cantrell’sworkinOklahoma. Cantrell, who was elected in 2022 to represent House District 49 in the Oklahoma HouseofRepresentatives, described theexperienceasboth educational and affirming.

“It has been an honor to represent Oklahoma in this fellowship of Health Policy leaders,” Cantrell said. “The education and practical knowledge not only did I receive but also shared about things we are doing in Oklahoma will be valuable as I continue to serve the people of Oklahoma and House District 49. Thank you for the opportunity to be your Representative.”

In addition to his legislative role, Cantrell currently serves as Vice Chair of the House Health and Human Services Oversight Committee, where he has focused on rural health access, workforce shortages and strengthening Oklahoma’shealthcare infrastructure. His background in county government has shaped much of his policy perspective, having previously served as a county commissioner and as county commission chairman.

Before his tenure in the state legislature, Cantrell also contributed to statewide policy discussions through his work on the legislative committee for the Board of the Association of County CommissionersofOklahoma, experience that continues to inform his approach to collaboration between state and local governments. As health policy conversations continue to evolve nationally, Cantrell’s participation in the Milbank Fellows Program highlights Oklahoma’s growing engagement in national policy networks, particularly in areas affecting rural communities and long-term healthcare delivery.
